A medium to full bodied wine showing intense ripe dark berry fruit aromas. A touch of fruitcake and some cinnamon spice.
The palate is dense with blackberry preserve and smoky oak flavours and lovely lingering fruit sweetness.
Rich berry fruits including blackberries and mulberries with alluring notes of malt, almond and mocha. Rich and juicy with ripe dark berry flavours and well-balanced oak. The palate shows good structure with medium tannins and a lingering finish.
Deep ruby red in color. The nose is fresh with aromas recalling plums and cherries complemented by sweet notes of tobacco and chocolate. Firm, elegant tannins lend the wine good density and silkiness that pairs with rich acidity for a wine with tremendous persistence and a pleasing finish.
The Catkin Story :
The Catkin story revolves around the Hazel Tree. The Celts believed the trees that grew around them all held special powers. The Hazel Tree is arguably the quintessential Celtic Tree due to it’s legendary position at the heart or entrance of the Otherworld. This wine is named after the flower of the Hazel. Catkins are the cascading bunches of Hazel flowers seen in late winter signifying the origin of harvest with exploding colour and life.
The First Cut Story :
The principle behind our first cut wines revolves around the winemaking term ‘first cut’ in which during the pressing cycle the softer free run juice/wine is separated from the second cut or pressings. This principle flows through to the style of First Cut wines, producing wines with great drinkability well suited to be enjoyed with food or as a drink with friends.
The "Art Series" represents Leeuwin's most opulent & ageworthy wines from each vintage. They are identified with paintings commissioned from leading contemporary Australian artists. Fragrant and lifted, the nose has density of fruit, balanced heightened floral notes, with complex spice and oak.
Appearance: intense red colour with purple lights. Nose: very ripe fruits, raspberry and blackcurrant jams. Palate: blackberries, spices, morello cherry. Dense and tight tannins with a great persistency in mouth.
Displays aromas of raspberry and plummy fruits with a hint of spice and an underlying Vanilla oak nuance which complements the fruit aroma. A fruit driven wine showing plum and berry fruits with a soft and round mouth feel. The wine has elegant balanced tannins with a dry yet smooth finish.
The Shiraz grapes used to make this wine have been sourced from select vineyards in McLaren Vale including those planted on the original Goss property. With dominant winter rainfall, warm, dry summers that are tempered by the proximity to the Gulf St. Vincent and low humidity, McLaren Vale has one of the most consistent climates in which to grow premium wine grapes, particularly Shiraz.
The fragrant cabernet sauvignon dominates with bright red fruits and plums. The palate is rich and generous with plush dark fruits. The red and black currants, Satsuma plums and raspberries are balanced by fine savoury tannins and cedary oak.
