Wine Masterclass Viña Perez Cruz

Wine Masterclass Viña Perez Cruz

How lucky we are to be the first few to taste the new arrivals from the Perez Cruz Winery.

We literally had it delivered to our doorstep a few days before the tasting.

What better way than to enjoy it with my fellow colleague and friends, both new and old, on a leisurely Saturday afternoon? We featured 4 labels and they’re all of the same varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon.

From the very first bottle to the last, they just got better and better.

Perez Cruz is a family owned winery specializing in red wines that are produced and bottled on site, reflecting the character and identity of the Maipo Alto Valley.

Located at the foothills of the Andes, its soil is deep & stony.

The Mediterranean climate features dry, sunny summers and broad temperature differences between night and day provides the perfect combination for producing high quality wines.

It was with pleasure that we had Mr. Panuwat Niramonchan, commercial executive for Asean,  conducting the masterclass and all of us were wowed by the quality of the bottles! All of it!

Perez Cruz Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2015

This is definitely one of my favourites for wines below RM100! The colour of this wine was burgundy and not as deep as I expected for a cabernet sauvignon, although I’ve learned time and again not to make any judgement just from the colour of the wine. It was indeed very flavourful with aromas of ripe berries and spices. Very well structured with mature tannins. This Reserva faithfully reflects the unique features of Maipo Andes, a combination of alluvial parcels, stony, high permeability and drainage due to the presence of gravel in the subsoil.

This was liked by all our guests. Many of them were WOWed by it and couldn’t wait to taste the rest of labels.

Perez Cruz Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Edition 2015

This of course didn’t fail to impress, standing out for its intensity. Very fruity, good volume, offering a well-balanced palate and very powerful! The Limited Edition comes from a selection of blocks that are carefully managed with lower yield for increased intensity. It got better after being decanted and has longer finish compared to the first label. Those of you who love “Kau-Kau” wines will love this for sure. 😊

Perez Cruz Pircas de Liguai, Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Now, this was created from a selection of the best blocks at their Fundo Liguai Estate in Huelquén, in the Andean sector of the Maipo Valley. Mr. Panu mentioned that this label has consistently delivered, year after year, wines that express all the character and identity of the terroir, which is characterized by the convergence of material, stones, and gravel of colluvial and alluvial origin in the same place. Believe me, it does! Complex, full bodied with ripe red fruits, black pepper and a hint of herbal notes. With its rounded tannins, this is a cabernet sauvignon with the intensity, freshness and elegance that I really love. A true classic!

Perez Cruz Liguai 2013

You can’t go wrong with this one. It is complex and elegant with a long lingering finish. The grapes are harvested by hand during the last week of April, where the maturation of tannins and flavours combine to perfection. It is made from small lots of grapes which are separated to get the unique characteristic of each parcel. The grapes are picked and cleaned at special tables at the Mesanina, and then introduced to stainless steel tanks for the gravitational process. They are then gently crushed continuously, undergoing cold maceration for 4 days at 10°C. To carefully manage the extraction, a soft pump is used to obtain smooth tannins during the alcoholic fermentation. The period of maceration lasts a full 30 days! The malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels and is hands down winner for us all!

Just reading about it doesn’t do justice to the labels, I’m afraid. So, here's my personal code: SULO5 for 5% off the retail price. Get them delivered to your home today!

Cheers!
